PCSU Criminal Legal Insurance

Criminal legal insurance offers protection for PCS members who work closely with the public at a cost of only £7.60 a month including £0.79 insurance premium tax for 24 hour protection including on and off duty.

We recognise your work can sometimes lead to conflict, especially for people working in enforcement or custodial duties. These incidents can sometimes result in criminal proceedings against you. Even if claims are unfounded you may still benefit from legal representation at an interview pre charge (including IOPC investigation) or at a Magistrates or Crown Court. With no guarantee your employer will provide you with a legal expenses indemnity and the continued erosion of access to legal aid, PCS members can find themselves potentially exposed and forced to their own defence against legal criminal charges. PCS Legal Assistance insurance will support your defence costs or support a claim you may want to bring against a third party for up to:

  • £750 for Crime-Pre Charge
  • £25,000 for Crime-Scottish Crime Cover
  • £100,000 for Crime-Crown Court
  • £50,000 for all other sections of cover

for legal advisers’ costs for certain types of legal action as more fully detailed in your policy wording and insurance schedule.
